Grace’s journey began in 2024 when, at just 9 years old, she took on an ambitious challenge: swimming 6km (3.75 miles) to raise funds for CHOC (Children’s Haematology Oncology Clinics), a South African organization dedicated to supporting children and families affected by childhood cancer and life-threatening blood disorders. CHOC provides essential services like accommodation for families during treatment, emotional support, and medical resources, ensuring no child fights alone. That year, Grace’s efforts netted R5,000\u2014a remarkable sum for someone so young, fueled by community donations and her unyielding spirit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But Grace wasn’t done. In 2025, she doubled down on her commitment, completing another grueling 6 kilometers swim and raising R10,000. These funds directly contribute to CHOC’s mission, helping cover costs for treatments, transport, and creating brighter days for kids in hospitals across the country. “It’s not easy,” Grace shared with a bright smile in photos from her swims, where she’s seen beaming in her neon green cap and goggles by the water’s edge, or powering through laps in a sparkling blue pool. “But thinking about the kids who need help keeps me going.
