Day 2: My Knees Are No Longer Speaking to Me<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

I woke up this morning a little stiff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nothing too dramatic \u2014 just feeling a few muscles that I had apparently forgotten existed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the determination was still there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 2. Let’s go.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

First came the usual morning chaos: kids, lunches, getting everyone sorted and pretending I have my life together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I even made myself lunch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A delicious chicken and baby spinach salad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although… can I actually call it a salad?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was baby spinach, grilled chicken breast, cucumber and feta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That’s it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Basically, I opened the fridge, looked at what we had and thought, “Yep. That’ll do.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Turns out, it was bloody delicious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AND apparently full of nutrients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Google.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Because while I technically have nutrition modules somewhere in that qualification I mentioned yesterday, those particular files in my brain are currently unavailable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I really need to go through them again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The brain is rusty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Possibly dead in some areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We’ll investigate later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oh, By the Way… Yesterday Was LEG DAY<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This is something I completely failed to mention in yesterday’s post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I STARTED WITH LEG DAY.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I genuinely don’t know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of all the possible ways I could have gently welcomed my 35-year-old body back into the gym, apparently I chose violence.<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

At this point I can’t even ask my mom why I do the things I do because I’m fairly certain she also thinks I’ve lost the plot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She still loves me though.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Right, Mom?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anyway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Getting in and out of my office chair today was A LOT of fun.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every time I stood up, my quads were basically:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“What the hell happened to us?”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

While my knees were somewhere in the background going:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Why would you do this?”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

What neither of them knew was that I had already made plans for the afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They had not been consulted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 2: Interval Cardio<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Today’s plan called for interval cardio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, am I ready to run?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Physically?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mentally?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also no.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spiritually?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Absolutely fucking not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So I decided we’d start with walking and play around with pace and incline on the treadmill instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A perfectly reasonable compromise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My legs disagreed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were protests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were negotiations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There may have been threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But eventually they seemed to realise that they had very little say in the matter and started cooperating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And you know what?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was happy.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I did it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I actually felt pretty damn good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then I stepped off the treadmill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My knees immediately said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Nope. We’re unavailable right now.”<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

And for a brief moment, I had to hold onto the treadmill for support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Physically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And emotionally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mostly physically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But definitely a little emotionally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Obviously This Deserved a Reward<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

After all that negotiating, arguing and convincing my legs to perform their basic contractual duties, I decided they deserved a treat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So I bought myself a protein shake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Very fitness girl of me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Very responsible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Very health and wellness.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although let’s be perfectly clear:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If they had offered me cake, I probably would’ve taken the cake.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

I’m trying to become stronger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’m not trying to become a liar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And Now We Have a Problem<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Supper is done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The kids are settled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’m tired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’m ready for bed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There’s just one small issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“My legs will no longer allow me to take my pants off.”<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Apparently we have reached that stage of the program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So here I am.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 2 complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Still determined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Still going.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Slightly concerned about my ability to sit on the toilet tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But going.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And before anyone asks…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I did not plank today either.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At this point, the plank and I are in a standoff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I know it’s there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It knows I’m avoiding it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One day soon I will summon the courage to voluntarily hold my entire body off the floor while attempting to engage a core I’m not entirely convinced currently exists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Without falling flat on my face.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’m not sure when falling on my face while planking became a genuine fear of mine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But apparently it is now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We’ll deal with that another day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maybe tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Probably not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 2: Done. \u2764\ufe0f<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Legs: angry.<\/em>
Knees: unavailable.<\/em>
Protein shake: consumed.<\/em>
Plank: successfully avoided.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apparently, We’re Doing This.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
